I've always been drawn to the human figure — the uniqueness, separateness and connectedness of each individual — a glance into the sovereignty of their life — to hold that moment for a fraction of a heartbeat. The human figure speaks louder to me than any other creation. The majesty of nature is nothing without man’s experience of it, and sometimes man is paled by it. The story I wish to tell is about life — that special look that speaks of a person's experience, or lack thereof.
I prefer painting alla prima. When I paint, I step into a world where nothing exists but the moment of a painting’s creation. Staying in this encapsulated world for the duration allows me
to become one with my subject, listening to their unique voice.
I find this moment in time impossible to return to, despite my efforts. No journey ever taken is ever the same the second time. For this reason, I choose to paint until the journey ends — until all that I am privileged to know has been revealed. |
