While camping at Lost Creek Lake in Southern Oregon, I was drawn to the final moments of the day as the lowering sun reached across the water. Most of the shoreline had already settled into shadow, but a narrow passage of illumination caught a single bush on the far bank.
That small, fleeting accent became the reason for the painting. Rather than describing the landscape in detail, I wanted the larger masses of water, trees, and shoreline to remain subdued, allowing that last illuminated note to hold the eye for just a moment before the scene disappeared into evening.
